The top/bottom bars are most useful to display some kind of static content (using text widgets), or recent posts/comments for example.

You can also choose to have colors cycle automatically: this means that the color of links will change smoothly as your visitors read your blog.

Note that the color-cycling feature does not work in Opera, Safari or Konqueror since these browsers do not allow for stylesheets manipulation through the document object model.
